Waikomo Stream
The Waikomo Stream Resort is a small 60 unit complex tucked into a dense tropical environment. It is at the main intersection between the Poipu Beach area, the old plantation town of Koloa, and the newly developing kukui'ula development. Waikomo offers very nice tropical condo homes at very affordable rental rates. Great for both short and long getaways.
On site you'll find a crystal clear blue pool with plenty of chaise lounges and even a kiddy pool. There is a complimentary tennis court surrounded by flowers and palm trees. A stream winds its way through the property and each building has that distinctive Hawaiian and Polynesian roof that let's you know you are enjoying the tropics. Kauai's tradewinds blow gently most of the year keeping the units cool and comfortable. Most units have floor to ceiling windows that can make the upper units feel like you are living in a jungle tree house.
All units have full kitchens, microwaves, tile lanai's, and outdoor dining rooms. Units range in size from 1,100 to 1,500 square feet.
From the Waikomo resort it is a nice stroll to the Sheraton Hotel beach area or Koloa Landing, a tiny harbor where you can watch scuba divers entering and returning from the ocean. Giant green sea turtles lounge on the rocks of Waikomo stream that empties into the landing area.
A short two minute drive (or a longer stroll) will take you to the Poipu Beach park area, often voted the best beach in America. Frequently praised for being the exact opposite of the hustle and bustle of Oahu's Waikiki - Poipu Beach is a nice neighborhood park with green grass, playsets for the kids, free picnic pavilions, and crescent shaped beaches that are swimmable 350 days a year. Great for safe shallow snorkeling too.
Another two minute drive to the West takes you past the Baby beach and Lawai beach area and on to Kauai's world famous Spouting Horn, where sea waves force water up and through ancient lava tubes creating a geyser like effect far more regular than Yellowstone's Old faithful. Be sure to visit the art stalls in the area.
Yet another two minute drive takes you to the old planation town of Koloa, the oldest in the islands. You may find the buildings to be a bit decrepit, but you'll love the shops and restaurants. There is also a good market and even baseball fields and a basketball court for having more fun.
And just down the road is the Kiahuna Gold course designed by Robert Trent Jones or the world famous Poipu Beach Golf course at the Hyatt Hotel.
